Antique silver naturally oxidises over time when exposed to oxygen, forming a darkened surface known as patina. This gradual oxidation is what gives vintage and archival silver its depth, contrast, and character.

Each MAABAE piece is intentionally finished using a specialised oxidizer ion process after plating to create this vintage-inspired darkened finish. This process enhances the shadows and textures of the design and gives every piece its antique look. Your jewellery will continue to oxidise naturally over time.

For centuries, tikkas and headpieces were worn across India as sacred adornment, resting at the center parting of the hair along the forehead. Positioned near the ajna, or third eye, they symbolized intuition, protection, and spiritual awareness. Beyond their ceremonial beauty, tikkas marked marital status, lineage, and regional identity, most prominently worn during weddings and rites of passage. These pieces were never merely decorative.
