Antique silver naturally oxidises over time when exposed to oxygen, forming a darkened surface known as patina. This gradual oxidation is what gives vintage and archival silver its depth, contrast, and character.

Each MAABAE piece is intentionally finished using a specialised oxidizer ion process after plating to create this vintage-inspired darkened finish. This process enhances the shadows and textures of the design and gives every piece its antique look. Your jewellery will continue to oxidise naturally over time.

For centuries, bold silver anklets were worn across India and much of Southeast Asia by nomadic and tribal communities as everyday adornment. Encircling the ankle, they signaled identity, marital status, prosperity, and protection. In many regions, their gentle chime was believed to ward off negative energy, while also marking rhythm in dance and ceremony. Anklets were often gifted at marriage and milestones, symbolizing new beginnings, femininity, and connection to home and lineage.

We reinterpret these archival forms through a modern lens, refining the silhouettes with cleaner contours, softening the weight, and engineering each piece to feel lighter and effortless for daily wear. The result is a sculptural anklet rooted in heritage, designed for the contemporary wardrobe.

Our design language is rooted in this idea. Inspired by the heritage of archival silver and reimagining it through a modern lens for today’s wardrobe. I’ve always been drawn to the history held in old-world jewelry - its weight, its patina, its soul.
